Pada artikel kali ini, saya akan membahas tentang Demonstrative Pronouns atau Kata Ganti Demonstratif. Baca terus sampai habis ya sahabat :)

Demonstrative Pronouns

When used to represent a thing or things, demonstrative pronouns can be either near or far in distance or time:
( Demonstrative Pronouns digunakan untuk merepresentasikan sesuatu atau benda, kata ganti demonstratif bisa dekat atau jauh dalam jarak atau waktu:

• Near in time or distance: this, these
  (Waktu atau jarak dekat bisa menggunakan this  (ini dalam artian single) dan these (ini dalam artian jamak)
• Far in time or distance: that, those
  (Waktu atau jarak jauh dapat menggunakan that  (itu dalam artian single) dan  those  (dalam artian jamak).

Because there are only a few demonstrative pronouns in the English language, there are just three simple rules for using them correctly.
(Karena hanya ada beberapa kata ganti demonstratif dalam bahasa Inggris, hanya ada tiga aturan sederhana untuk menggunakannya dengan benar).

Remember them and you will have no difficulty using these surprisingly interesting parts of speech.
Ingat ketiga aturan dibawah ini :

1. Demonstrative pronouns always identify nouns, whether those nouns are named specifically or not. (Kata ganti demonstratif selalu mengidentifikasi nomina, apakah nomina itu diberi nama secara khusus atau tidak.)
   
   Contoh : “I can’t believe this.”
   
   Kita tidak tahu apa“this” is, tetapi itu benar-benar sesuatu yang tidak bisa dipercaya oleh penulis. Itu ada, meskipun kita tidak tahu apa itu.
   
2. Demonstrative pronouns are usually used to describe animals, places, or things, however they can be used to describe people when the person is identified.
   (Kata ganti demonstratif biasanya digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan hewan, tempat, atau benda, namun mereka dapat digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan orang ketika orang tersebut diidentifikasi).
   
   Contoh: This sounds like Mary singing.
3. Do not confuse demonstrative adjectives with demonstrative pronouns. The words are identical, but demonstrative adjectives qualify nouns, whereas demonstrative pronouns stand alone.
   
   Jangan mengacaukan kata sifat demonstratif dengan kata ganti demonstratif. Kata-kata itu identik, tetapi kata sifat demonstratif memenuhi syarat kata benda, sedangkan kata ganti demonstratif berdiri sendiri.

Demonstrative pronouns can be used in place of a noun, so long as the noun being replaced can be understood from the pronoun’s context. Although this concept might seem a bit confusing at first, the following examples of demonstrative pronouns will add clarity.

Kata ganti demonstratif dapat digunakan sebagai pengganti kata benda, selama kata benda yang diganti dapat dipahami dari konteks kata ganti. Meskipun konsep ini mungkin tampak sedikit membingungkan pada awalnya, contoh berikut kata ganti demonstratif akan menambah kejelasan.

 Contoh Demonstrative Pronouns 

In the following examples, demonstrative pronouns have been italicized for ease of identification.
(demonstrative pronouns dibawah dicetak miring.) 

This was my mother’s ring.

That looks like the car I used to drive.

These are nice shoes, but they look uncomfortable.

Those look like riper than the apples on my tree.

Such was her command over the English language.

None of these answers are correct.

Neither of the horses can be ridden.
